Construction Procurement

What is construction procurement?

Construction procurement is the process of sourcing and purchasing the materials, equipment, and services a project needs — covering everything from selecting suppliers and requesting quotes to issuing purchase orders and managing delivery.

It picks up where estimating ends: once a scope is priced and a job is won, procurement turns the estimate's quantities into actual orders. On larger projects it spans submittals, lead-time tracking, and buyout across many trades and suppliers.

Good procurement keeps a project supplied on schedule and on budget, and it is where a lot of margin is won or lost. Connecting the estimate and takeoff directly to sourcing — so quantities flow into buying decisions — is central to what Quotr is built to do.

For contractors, disciplined procurement prevents delays and cost overruns from late or wrong materials. For developers, it is where sourcing strategy translates into real savings on a project's largest costs.

Why it matters

Materials are often the biggest line in a project budget, and procurement is how that money is actually spent. Weak procurement erodes the margin a good estimate created.
